The grape variety that is emblematic of Valais.
A true emblem of Valais,Chasselas (known as Fendant in Valais) is the most widely planted variety in Switzerland.
Today, Chasselas is the grape variety of choice for pairing with appetisers, and cheese dishes such as the famous Valais raclette.
Chasselas is easy to recognise by its mineral notes and light prickle.
A little secret about Chasselas: in Valais, the name Fendant is said to come from the fact that its berries ‘fendent’ or ‘split’ under pressure without losing any juice.
